LIFE IN MEMORIAL

This piece was commissioned in memory of a man named Sam, a young father who lost a sudden battle with cancer, gifted by his friends to Sam’s family. His friends shared a few of Sam’s favorite things - bicycling, nature, rockets, puns, and the osprey. The spiritual meaning of the osprey is powerful, with clear vision, adaptability, and keeping a higher perspective. In Native American lore, the osprey is seen as a fierce protector. I wanted Sam’s loved ones to find the mix of his gentleness, love of humor and whimsical, while also feeling the power of the protector, and the ways in which he is still in their daily lives.
